2019 Summer Program Kicks Off in Sarasota

Date: May 28, 2019

Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County is welcoming thousands of children for an exciting nine-week Summer Program at six Club locations. The 2019 Summer Program kicked off on May 28 at 7:30 a.m. at our five Clubs in Sarasota County, and the Arcadia Boys & Girls Club in DeSoto County will open June 3 at 8 a.m. While children and teens will have access to enriching educational, developmental and recreational programs, our staff have planned a variety of fun and engaging opportunities for our Club members to enjoy over the next couple months.

Each of our Club locations have special themed weeks throughout the Summer Program ranging from Sports Week and Career Week to Cool Creatures Week and Western Week. Children and teens can expect fascinating guest speakers from nonprofit agencies and local businesses to visit their Clubs and share their expertise on a variety of subjects. We'll also be collaborating with numerous community partners to provide exclusive academic programs that combat the summer slide and ensure each Club member is ready for a successful 2019-2020 School Year.

We asked some Club members what they're looking forward to most this summer, and here's what they had to say:

"I'm excited to see my friends every day, and learn how to swim at the Lee Wetherington Boys & Girls Club!" Adrianna, 8.

"I'm ready to go on field trips with my friends, and see new places I've never been before." Jakob, 9.

"I want to practice painting and drawing this summer in the Art Room!" Bailee, 11.

"The Club has so many opportunities for teens! We've got a basketball tournament planned, and we've got a ton of classes to participate in. Teens can hone their leadership skills in the STAR Leadership Training Program, build their own business in the Perlman Price Young Entrepreneurs Program or take a class like Carpentry, Culinary, Video Production or Auto Tech!" Tyanna, 17.

"I'm looking forward to building my resume this summer. The Club helps teens connect to job opportunities and explore all kinds of career paths." Zeke, 17.
