On Friday, two Club youth were named Florida's 2024 Youth of the Year. Alexander P. from Naval Air Station Jacksonville was selected as the Florida Military Youth of the Year, and Nico F. from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Florida was selected as Florida Youth of the Year. Both young men will represent the state of Florida at their respective Southeast Youth of the Year competitions in mid-May at the National BGCA Conference in Atlanta.

Alexander and Nico were two of twenty-six youth that represented their local Club organizations at Friday's contest. Youth delivered a prepared, three-minute speech to a panel of judges before fielding as much as twelve minutes of questions from their judge panel.

Finalists were announced at a luncheon, where they delivered their speeches once more before the finalist judges, the other contestants and their mentors, and other guests at the event. They then underwent another round of interview questions. Winners were announced at the awards reception and dinner that evening.

The Youth of the Year program fosters leadership within Clubs, and acknowledges Club members that exemplify the Boys & Girls Club mission. They are proof of the impact Clubs make in transforming and saving kids' lives. Each year, thousands of Club teens participate in local, state and regional Youth of the Year events. Six teens, including five regional winners and a national military youth winner, advance to the National Youth of the Year Celebration, where one outstanding young person is named Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s national teen spokesperson. The National Youth of the Year is a role model, leader and advocate for over 3.6 million youth served by Boys & Girls Clubs each year, and all of America’s young people.

Congratulations Alexander and Nico!
