The Boys & Girls Club of St. Lucie County is opening a brand new food pantry to help families get access to goods during Hunger Action Month.

The place is in Port St. Lucie to help families with food insecurities.

Once a storage room, now through a $20,000 donation from GL Homes, the new pantry will soon be able to feed 300 to 400 individuals in club families around its area.

"In order for the Boys and Girls families for the kids to succeed, let's give them healthy nutritious food," said Sarah Alsofrom, of GL Homes.

Food choices inside will be guided by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America Healthy Habits Program, so there will be plenty of fresh options to choose from.

"We are going to have fresh chicken, fresh hamburgers, we are going to have vegetables that are fresh. We are going to have canned goods. We are also going to have items that kids like to eat," said Will Armstead, the CEO of the Boys and Girls Club St. Lucie County.
